FROM BAD TO WORSE: DUCATI 350 DESMO PROJECT Gone wrong
What began as a relatively straightforward service has quickly evolved into something far more involved.
This 1972 Ducati 350 Desmo “Silver Shotgun” first came to us after we assisted the client in sourcing the bike using our buyer’s guide. On initial inspection, it appeared to be a solid and honest machine. However, as we started working through the bike in detail, a different picture began to emerge.
With each step of the process, new issues surfaced. Previous repairs, hidden wear, and long-standing mechanical problems gradually revealed themselves, shifting the scope of the project well beyond what was originally planned. What was intended as a comprehensive service is now clearly heading toward a full restoration.
In this video, we document the early stages of that journey. From the first teardown and inspection to evaluating the true condition of the engine and cycle parts, this is where expectations meet reality.
Projects like these raise an important question: when does it make sense to continue repairing, and when is a complete restoration the only viable path forward?
Things can spiral out of control quickly. And this is just the beginning…
